02/03/2010 Matech Competition : Bernoldi joins Mutsch

Matech Competition has announced its final driver line up for the GT1 World Championship. In car 5, the factory driver Thomas Mutsch will be partnered by Enrique Bernoldi. The 31 year old from Curitiba in Brazil is no stranger to GT cars having competed in GT1 last season, securing 2 pole positions, 3 podiums and a win, from only 5 races.
Martin Bartek, Team Principal and Owner said today “This is going to be an incredible driver pairing and we are looking forward to strong support for Matech when the championship arrives in Germany and Brazil later this year.” Thomas Mutsch said : “I’m really pleased to share the car with Enrique. I have known him for many years before now. He was very fast last year in FIA GT and I’m sure we are going to make a great driver pairing this season.”

Enrique Bernoldi: “I’m very happy to have the opportunity to drive for Matech as I like both the team structure and the car. Its going to be great to drive the Matech GT1 car for the first time and to develop it with Thomas over the season. I cannot wait to fight for the championship and win races.”

In car ‘6, there will be a 100% Swiss and 100% female driver pairing with Natacha Gachnang and Cyndie Allemann, both coming from open wheel racing, and who were both very impressive when testing with the team last month. As we have already announced, Natacha and Cyndie will be driving for Matech at Le Mans.

The team also commented :"Our testing programme is progressing on schedule - the drivers have reported significant improvements over last year’s prototype in terms of both aero efficiency and mechanical grip with further improvements scheduled before the start of the season on April 17 at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi. Lastly, its fantastic to announce that SINTEZ have extended their commitment with Matech to become our title partner for the 2010 GT1 World Championship season and the 24 hours of Le Mans. As you may already know, SINTEZ is a highly successful energy company based in Russia with operations around the world. We look forward to strengthening our existing partnership with SINTEZ by working with them even more closely over the coming year."
